We’re just over a month away from the kick-off of the First Defenders Civil War Round Table’s 28th Campaign! The Program Committee has been hard at work, and the schedule is almost full of new and interesting presentations.
The venerable Chris Mackowski will again be our lead-off guest on September 10th. He’ll be speaking on, “A Tempest of Iron and Lead: Spotsylvania,” a subject Chris knows well from his National Park Service days and his current residence at Stevenson’s Ridge on the edge of this epic conflict. Due to family and professional commitments, this may be Chris’ last trip to the First Defenders in awhile, so you want to mark this down on your schedule!
Both Brad Gottfried and Wally Heimbach will be on the schedule this year trying to make up for their illness and weather cancellations, and their talks will have a Gettysburg flavor. Chris Heisey will be returning after an absence of more than ten years, and we will welcome first-time speakers Tom Clemens in October and Drew Gruber in December. In January, we will host a new and improved version of our well-received “Civil War Jeopardy.”
Meetings will continue to be held on the second Tuesday of the month at Giannotti’s Country Restaurant in Alsace Manor. Our fare will be similar to previous years along with a couple of new entrees. The price will go up by a dollar this year to $32, and that include your meal, dessert, coffee, soda, ice tea, lemonade and a private dining area for food, friendship and history!
We look forward to seeing everyone for our 28th Campaign!
