December 11th Program Announcement

The next program for the First Defenders Civil War Round Table is scheduled for Tuesday, December 11th, at the Inn at Reading.  President Craig Breneiser will present a program on “The Second Battle of Franklin,” an overview of one of the most overlooked and forgotten engagements of the Civil War.  However, the “second battle” is the effort to provide some level of preservation in a sprawling Tennessee community during a time when new questions and prejudices impact how the conflict is viewed, interpreted and remembered.

The December newsletter can also be read or downloaded from the “Newsletters” page or by clicking here.

New this month is a page on our Civil War ancestors.  Our first submission comes from Dale Kratzer and tells the story of Joseph Moyer, Dale’s great-great grandfather, a private in the 176th Pennsylvania Drafted Militia.  It’s an interesting read!  (You can go directly to the story of Private Moyer right here.)

The deadline for reservations is Friday, December 7th at 12:00 noon.  Don’t wait; sign up for the program today!
