February 12th Program Announcement

The First Defenders Civil War Round Table will meet on Tuesday, February 12th (Lincoln’s Birthday!) at the Inn at Reading beginning at 6:00 PM. First Defender Wally Heimbach will present a program on the flamboyant and world-renowned soldier, Phil Kearny. Had the life of the one-armed general not been cut short at Chantilly in 1862, it is entirely possible he would have been the man to replace George McClellan after Antietam. It is interesting to ponder what might have happened had Kearny been in command in place of the well-meaning but incompetent Ambrose Burnside!

If you missed Mark Quattrock’s January program on the U.S. Army Medical Department during the Civil War, check out the review just below this post. And, peruse or download the February newsletter under the “Dispatches” tab.

Reservations for the February program are due no later than noon on Friday, February 8th. Sign up on-line, or contact Meal Captain Kathy Little by telephone.

NOTE: With winter weather upon us, the potential for having to cancel a program is always a threat. Any decision on a cancellation will be made no later than noon on Monday, February 11th. Email notifications will be made to those who have signed up for the event, so be sure to check your inbox if the weather looks to be a problem!
