Word has been passed along to the Round Table about an state auction at the Green Hills Auction Center in Mohnton on Monday, April 2nd. Auctioneer Sam Ferraro has a consignment of the estate’s books, almost all of which are classic editions. They will be up for auction at 2:00 pm.
There is a beautiful set of the War of the Rebellion – Official Records, published by the National Historical Society in 1971, the Reprint Edition (128 volumes). The set appears to be complete and looks untouched. There is no information on what the auctioneer will require for an opening bid. A quick check on Amazon, though, showed there are seven sets of these used books for sale. The same exact edition prices range from $1,584 to $3,250.
128 volumes consume about two five-foot book shelves, but they are a treasure trove of information for anyone interested in researching virtually any aspect of the Civil War (and they really look impressive in the den or living room!). If you’ve ever had a hankering for your own copy of the O.R., this estate auction might be just the ticket!
